Darknights

The memories had always been with me and it had faded somewhat but I remember them and have always had a soft spot for these special memories. I had always thought it normal to retain memories as a baby in my mother's womb. Others can remember as far back to when they were 2 years old, where as I have memory of my time in the womb. However sporadic, the memories has faded a bit over the years but there are very strong memories that will never fade away. The womb and its contents are truly designed for comfort and growth. There is the sense of floating in a heavenly paradise cocoon of warm, thick and calm orange liquid of bubbly flotsam. I recall an orange casts halo of light from a distant that highlighted the watery cocoon of bubbles and grainy debris softly swaying in the soothing muck. Muffled sounds from outside are barely audible but a symphony of echoing bubble bursts and bubble gurgles and sloshing water are a constant companion, gently issuing to the gentle swaying of the comfortable womb. The memories are of when I am awake which probably explains the sporadic memories as I am asleep most of the time and awareness came about in the later stages of growth whilst in the womb which explains the lack of stored memories. Conversations around these memories were rare and far apart and when it did materialize, I am always confronted with disbelief and accused with fabricated memories. My memories are of utter and complete security and comfort in an environment dedicated only to growth. There is also a sense of assurance like your guardian angel is ever present and has you under her protective wings, perhaps it is not an angel but God Almighty preparing you for your journey into the world of man.

After several trials and errors and model difficulties, I was able to achieve these images. The silhouettes of my grandsons turned out really well. The off camera speed-light on a light stand was placed diagonal and just behind my models and I had set the inbuilt speed light reflector to stop back light leakage and had set the speed light head vertically at a power strength of 1/128th. The model positions were critical in achieving the sharp light cuts on the dark background.

Reflection

Photographed Tia's ankles to enhance her tattoos and view it from an diagonal perspective for a more artistic look but decided to further push it to a more high end image. Selected Tia's legs and set my brush to 100% opacity and white and painted the background white. Flipped the image, blurred it to suit, push down the opacity to suit and ran a low opacity white brush across that flipped image to finish the reflection look. Adjusted the exposure to finalize my reflection practice but I gotta admit, my recreation more than achieved my intentions.

Cook Islands WW1 Contingent

Research;
In preparation for the up and coming ANZAC WW1 Centennial Commemoration for the Cook Islanders that served in the great war and my contribution to the photo board to be displayed at the Cook Islands Commemoration, my research commenced with a Auckland Council Heritage Trail brochure that marked an Auckland wide trail marking all the historical sites pertaining to the Great War. History dictates that young men from the Cook Islands

were shipped here to New
Zealand Military Camps for
military training and later transferred all over Europe to the various war stages. I was earlier informed of a lone Cook Islands soldier interned at Oneil's Point Cemetery in Bayswater over the Shore. However, the significant importance of this piece of information did not dawn on me until I realized the proximity of one training camp to the cemetery and with one huge swoop, several unknown pieces of the 100 years old puzzle fell into place.

Monochrome

Context;
Experimenting with monochrome after a visit to Ilan Wittenberg's website and is very impressed with the monochrome photos. Try and try again was a factor in my search for that certain monochrome finish I was after and I believe I am well on my way to achieving that look. At this stage, I think, texture and contrast needs work to add depth to my images.

Bushwalk Bridge
Content;
Scouting for a unique and eye catching photographic scenes under the guise of a visit to Totara Park in Manurewa with the family for bush walk and swim. A kiwi nature environment with walkways and tracks situated in an urban situation with unique indigenous fauna and birds species with a public swimming pool along with a private conference and restaurant facilities. Some pretense of exercising and hiking.

Summer Bombs
Form;
Canon 60D with Tamron 10-24mm wide angle lens for distorted images and warped lines, 50mm kit lens for true images with minimal distortion and monopod for stability during very slow shutter speed experiments. Family at hand as readily available, unpaid models and some kids who happen to be swimming at the time. The pattern forms of the various natural fauna and the tracks and bridges and the undulating hills along with the conflicting and complementing textures, The dated restaurant building with it's 1920s architecture made for a fetching photograph. An abandon water tower, overgrown with trees and bush created an infinity and distorted image.
